Information on the Supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses

As I have not yet completed my doctoral degree, I am currently only able to act as a secondary supervisor for Bachelor’s theses. I am particularly happy to provide secondary supervision for projects focusing on language and writing pedagogy. At present, I am unable to supervise Master’s theses in either a primary or secondary supervisory role.

The traffic-light system provides an overview of the current supervision capacity of academic staff in the German Language and Literature Education section. The page also contains information about individual staff members’ areas of expertise, their specific expectations and requirements for accepting new supervisees, and the next steps in the supervision process. 

The traffic-light colours have the following meanings:

• Green: Supervision capacity is currently available.
• Yellow: Only limited supervision capacity remains available.
• Red: Supervision capacity is currently fully allocated..

Please first familiarise yourself with the research areas of potential supervisors. You should then contact the person whose expertise best aligns with your proposed topic and who has capacity during your intended supervision period. Please do not contact several members of staff simultaneously. Instead, wait for a response from your preferred supervisor, who will reply as soon as possible.

If no supervision capacity is available within German Language and Literature Education, or if no suitable supervisor can be found for your proposed topic, you may also complete your thesis under the supervision of academic staff from other subject areas. You may, of course, also complete your thesis in your second or third teaching subject or in Educational Sciences.

Please note that the traffic-light system is updated regularly and is intended as a guide only. The final allocation of a supervision place is subject to individual agreement with the relevant supervisor and formal registration with the Central Examination Office (ZPA).
